
Asphalt Laborer/Flagger

- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
- Assist paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver;
- Signal operators of equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel;
- Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite;
- May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer;
- Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials;
- Equipment operating experience a plus;
- Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies;
- Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices;
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor;
- Perform a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools;
- Maintain a clean job site; pick up tools and equipment in order to eliminate potential hazards;
- Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies;
- May perform other duties such as shoveling asphaltic materials and assisting with maintenance of asphalt finishing machine to include adding or removing screed extensions;
- Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order;
- Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired;
- Shifts may vary according to project;

- Report any problems to your manager;
- Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently;

- Perform any other general duties as specified.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
- Thorough understanding of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical;
- Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
- Report to work at the designated start time;
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel;
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
- Be able to work overtime when required;
- Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements;
- Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
- Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
- Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
