Service Aide I (Housekeepers), University HousingThe University of Tennessee’s Career Gateway is looking to fill the temporary assignment of Service Aide I with the University Housing. Please see the job specifics below and if you have any questions, please emailPlease note that Career Gateway temporary positions do not have benefits, annual leave, or sick leave accrual.Pay Rate: $15.00 Per HourThe University Housing department is seeking housekeepers to provide critical custodial services throughout the residence halls. The position will help maintain all University Housing facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity that will promote successful candidates to regular staff appointments with competitive benefits.GENERAL PUBLIC AREA CLEANING: Clean public areas including but not limited to: lounges, stairwells, lobbies, hallways, recreation rooms, laundry rooms, and multi-purpose rooms; Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip/wax hard surface flooring; Perform carpet care and cleaning; Dust surfaces; Remove trash and recyclable material.RESTROOM/BATHROOM CLEANING: Clean and disinfect student/residential, staff, and public bathroom/restrooms.MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: Unload supplies; Write up maintenance/custodial work orders; Move furniture; Install mattresses; Wash linens; Turnover guest apartments; Perform special event set-up and takedown.EXTERIOR GROUNDS KEEPING: Pick-up and remove trash; Weed flower beds; Clean concrete surfaces and walks; Remove snow and ice from walkways.MINOR MAINTENANCE: Perform touch-up painting; Replace baseboards; Repair custodial equipment; Replace light bulbs.Available Schedules:Full-Time Hours:This schedule offers a Temp to Hire Opportunity
Monday-Friday, 7a-4p (1 hour lunch)Weekend worker rotation, Saturday-Sunday, 7a-2p (30-min lunch)Part-Time Hours:Retirees: Monday-Friday, 9a-1pPart-Time: Monday-Friday, 8:30a-4p (30-min lunch)QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to understand custodial industry standards/methods and best practices
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and schedules
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong, positive work ethic
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms
  • Ability to work with both a diverse customer and employee base
  • Ability to accept directives and instructions and carry out same.
  • Prior experience in a custodial operation preferred.
