Millions of buildings in more than 170 countries have been transformed into immersive Matterport digital twins to improve every part of the building lifecycle from planning, construction, and operations to documentation, appraisal, and marketing.About the Role:We are looking for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to lead the development of advanced embedded systems powering our next-generation drones, LiDAR modules, and robotic platforms. In this highly technical role, you will architect real-time mechanical, motorized complete solutions that directly interface with complex sensors, actuators, and compute modules-driving autonomy, control systems and data gathering across our products.This position is in Sunnyvale, CA and is onsite Monday through FridayWhat you will do:
  • Sensor & Hardware Integration: Interface with LiDARs, IMUs, GPS, RTK, cameras, and other components via SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, and custom protocols.
Firmware Architecture & Development: Design and implement robust embedded firmware for real-time systems involving motor control and sensor fusion * Hardware Bring-up: Lead board bring-up efforts for new prototypes and production hardware.
  • Diagnostics & Debugging: Use tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and accelerometers to troubleshoot system-level issues.
  • System Optimization: Improve performance, power consumption, and reliability for embedded platforms under constrained environments.
  • Technical Leadership: Mentor junior engineers, set best practices for system development, system testing and technical roadmapping.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work with mechanical, electrical, perception, and AI teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
Basic Qualifications:
  • BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of embedded systems experience, ideally in robotics, aerospace, or automotive environments.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded motor control and/or sensor based systems
  • Experience with control systems (e.g., PID, ESCs, PWM, motor drivers).
Experience with sensors and electronic systems, have designed all parts of a hardware product. * Experience with high precision, durable mechanical systems using automated motion control.
  • Maker mindset, you have no problem grabbing a tool to just go get that prototype built!
  • Experienced in first principles engineering and problem solving
  • Track record of commitment to prior employers
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS 2, or SLAM systems.
  • Experience with LiDAR calibration, point cloud data handling, and sensor synchronization.
  • Python scripting for test automation or debugging.
  • Experience in application development for iOS and Android

Pay Transparency:This position offers an annual OTE pay range from $181,700-$294,200 determined by relevant skills and experience, in addition to uncapped commission opportunities and a generous benefits plan.Sponsorship Statement:US: We welcome all qualified candidates who are currently eligible to work full-time in the United States to apply.
