Role: Medical Coder (Trauma and Surgical)Responsibilities
- Review operative/clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes (trauma, general surgery, and related E/M as applicable).
- Ensure compliance with payer policies, NCCI edits, and organizational guidelines; maximize appropriate charge capture.
- Partner with billing to resolve edits/denials; respond to coding inquiries promptly.
- Meet established productivity and quality/accuracy targets and turnaround times.
- Participate in coding education/meetings; uphold HIPAA and confidentiality at all times.
- HS Diploma/GED.
- 3+ years production coding in a physician practice/surgical setting (outpatient pro-fee).
- Active CPC or CCS-P(required).
- Demonstrated Trauma & Surgical coding experience (required).
- Proficiency with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS; familiarity with current E/M guidelines and payer rules.
- Reliable remote setup (secure internet; modern computer—dual monitors recommended); contractor provides all equipment.
- Fully remote with a consistent weekday schedule (CST/EST).
- Focused trauma & surgical case mix—build and maintain high-acuity expertise.
