- Review all construction documents including Instructions To Bidders, Bid Forms, and Scope of Work
- Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
- Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and/or email
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasions
- Work as part of a team to coordinate scope of work between in-house trades (Piping, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Electrical) as required
- Mentor estimators as needed
- Take-off all equipment (AHUs, VAVs, CRACs, heaters, fans, etc.) and material for trade specific scope of work utilizing the Trimble Autobid computerized estimating system.
- Enter all material, labor, sub pricing, vendor pricing, equipment rentals and other costs into bid summary before bid due date
- Review all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
- Review in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications, including coordination of equipment and controls to avoid scope gaps
- Enter scope of work into company proposal template form (MS Word Based)
- Upon project award, assist in procurement of subs, equipment and materials
- Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial and institutional construction
- Minimum 10 years Estimating and Pre-Construction experience
- A thorough understanding and knowledge of shop fabrication/production rates, means methods of construction for the sheet metal trades
- A solid and thorough understanding of SMACNA duct construction standards and pressure classes
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and interface with BAS
- Experience in providing budgets, value management ideas, construction schedules, and manpower projections
- Demonstrated knowledge and efficiency in computer/network based estimating software (i.e. Autobid, Quote Soft, TSI, Estimation, or equivalent)
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam software
- Must be able to meet critical deadlines
- Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
- Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
- Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
- Must be available to work assigned schedules
- Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
- Position will require visits to construction and industrial work sites
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo/print copiers, email, and teleconferencing. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants and/or on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floors/levels.
- May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)
- AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related discipline
- Industrial facilities experience
- Experience with MS Project or other scheduling software
- Prior military experience
