Enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.The Hardware Specialist acts as a product expert for Onity Hardware solutions. This position is responsible for providing technical service and specialized access solutions hardware support for Onity sales teams (both Hospitality and Commercial), Installers/Dealers, Engineering, Product Management, Project Coordination, Technical Support, Customer Service and end user customers. This role defines what products are suitable for the customer’s doors and openings based on Onity’s product specifications and numerous factors such as building codes and life-safety requirements.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to analyze complex data (site surveys and blueprint specifications) to ensure selected hardware meets ADA, building code and life safety requirements (door fire rating).
  • Daily interfacing with Regional Sales Team creating value-engineered hardware sets based on client’s requirements and needs.
  • Requires an understanding of door and frame hardware and locks; ability to determine appropriate hardware from pictures and discussions with site surveyor in order to generate accurate material sheet to submit to Sales for customer quotation.
  • Develop detailed and accurate material sheets, including part numbers, to quickly facilitate sales quotes
  • Excellent customer service and cross-functional teamwork skills; demonstrated capability to work with sales team, external contractors, architects and project managers to facilitate a clear understanding of hardware use and installation for each project.
  • Quality checks site surveys to determine if all required data is accounted for on the survey form. If all data has not been included, must secure the information from the surveyor prior to releasing invoice for payment.
  • Organizes and enters all data into multiple systems and completes work within deadlines.
  • Custom Order Process: Must be able to identify the need for custom parts and collect necessary information and initiate internal process for part fabrication.
  • Assist in conducting product knowledge cross-training programs for internal and external personnel including the support of on boarding and certifying new installation crew leaders.
  • Support Regional Sales Managers, Engineering, Product Management, Project Coordination, Technical Support, Customer Service and end user to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Provides consultative hardware support to the Project Coordinators, Technical Support & Customer Service team so they may order correct parts on live projects (for change orders and other modifications).
  • Reports to management on quality issues, trends and losses.
  • Works on special projects as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 6+ months of experience in construction/trades OR 6+ months of experience in customer service focusing on construction, real estate or the hospitality environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Read and interpret install templates for bored, exit and mortise hardware devices.
  • Read and interpret Architectural floor plans and develop detailed hardware sets based off of Division 8 – 08700 documents and door schedules.
  • Preferred experience in specifying Division 8 Architectual Hardware products.
  • Ability to submit RFIs to architects and ask specific questions related to the Door & Hardware industry.
  • Familiarity and experience utilizing computer-aided drawing software (e.g. AutoCAD, ProE, Creo, Planswift or similar).
  • Ability and willingness to pursue and secure DHI (Door and Hardware Institute) certification as an Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC).
  • Ability to study and develop progressing knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 & 80.
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory and low voltage access control systems.
  • Preferred experience in specifying fail safe / fail secure low voltage access control systems.
  • Proven ability to rapidly learn and assimilate new technologies.
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to assess and respond to customer's needs.
  • Prefer familiarity with electronic locking and access control systems.
  • Ability to interpret user and installation manuals.
  • Personal Computer experience and familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office required.
  • Preferred Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel experience.
  • Ability to interpret statistical results to identify root cause and drive corrective actions to completion.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management, and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Good technical/mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be highly organized, self-managed and driven, with superior follow through skills.
  • Can manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and provide technical sales support.
  • Cloud or cloud based applications.
