Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.Job OverviewThe Senior, Business Data Analyst serves as a key link between business users, technology teams, and other contributors, acting as the primary point of contact for building robust solutions that enable quick resolution, deep dives, root cause analysis, and process improvement. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, with responsibility for accurately capturing and translating data requirements-both tactical and analytical-and validating and verifying the working solution. The Senior, Business Data Analyst collaborates and communicates effectively with business partners, marketing analysts, IT developers, project and product managers, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.What You Will Do
  • Participate in end-to-end solutions, including requirement gathering, planning, solutioning, development execution, and documentation for marketing systems.
  • Partner with customers to understand business challenges and requirements for proposed solutions.
  • Document business and technical requirements with clarity and precision.
  • Perform thorough data analysis to assess the feasibility of proposed solutions and identify limitations or risks.
  • Provide guidance on data conversion and mapping decisions, ensuring data integrity throughout the process.
  • Translate high-level business requirements into actionable and achievable deliverables.
  • Contribute to solution development to ensure alignment with business requirements.
  • Identify and recommend effective data visualization solutions to address key business questions.
  • Understand and document underlying data elements, constraints, flows, and sources within the business domain.
  • Develop supporting artifacts such as Source-to-Target Mapping documents, data dictionaries, data lineage, and other information management documentation.
  • Perform detailed data validation to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on macys.com business processes, data, marketing ecosystem, and data received from other sources.
  • Present project status, milestones, and issues to management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct deep-dive data analyses to identify key trends and patterns.
Day-to-Day Data and Analytics Support:
  • Research and troubleshoot data and systems issues.
  • Resolve or prioritize issue resolution to ensure timely outcomes.
  • Proactively identify data quality problems and support solution development.
  • Interpret and work with highly complex physical and logical data models.
  • Conduct testing and validation of data and solutions.
  • Establish and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) plans.
  • Deliver training to end users.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
Skills You Will NeedData Analysis and SQL Expertise - Strong SQL skills with experience in data analysis, ETL, data import/export, file processing, and automation (Shell scripting, AWK, SED, FTP).Data Modeling and Warehousing - Knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling, data profiling, and working with large-scale data warehouse environments.Complex Data Processing - Ability to process and analyze complex data sets in Oracle, Hadoop, and DB2 databases, interpreting results to support business decision-making.Analytical and Critical Thinking - Strong analytical mindset with the ability to conduct deep-dive analyses, identify trends, and perform root cause analysis.Business and Technical Requirement Translation - Skilled in capturing, documenting, and translating business needs into actionable technical solutions.Data Visualization and Reporting - Experience building reports and dashboards in Tableau; ability to identify effective visualization methods to address business questions.Adobe Analytics Knowledge - Working knowledge of Adobe Analytics to support marketing and customer insights.Communication and Collaboration - Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively partner with senior management, architects, data modelers, visualization experts, and developers.Problem Solving and Issue Resolution - Proven ability to troubleshoot systems and data issues, prioritize resolutions, and ensure data quality across complex environments.Project and Process Management - Experience managing requirements gathering, solution design, documentation, testing, and UAT within Agile/Lean frameworks.Independence and Initiative - Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, balancing multiple priorities while delivering accurate and timely results.Leadership and Mentorship - Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) on business processes, data ecosystems, and marketing systems; provides training and guidance to end users.Who You Are
  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 5-7 years of experience as a Systems Analyst / Business Analyst / ETL Developer.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
