JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician Specialist (Specialty Pharmacy) is responsible for areas of specialty that include: prescription intake and processing, prior authorization completion, collaboration with various departments across the medical center, patient care and coordination of specialty medications across several specialty clinic areas. The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician Specialist, in conjunction with the, Outpatient Pharmacy Manager, Infusion Supervisor and Clinical Specialty Pharmacist is responsible for their area of specialty which includes training, program development, writing procedures, and continual analysis of current processes. These areas are all critical result areas that frequently involve very expensive items, automated technology and rigid quality control. Interpretation and problem solving skills are frequently used as well as precise manufacturing skills. Accurate record keeping and communication skills are essential.

Conditional offers of employment in the Specialty Pharmacy department are contingent upon favorable completion of a thorough background check and post-offer, pre-employment drug screening. Candidates must submit to a drug screen from a vendor approved by the UVM Medical Center. Specialty Pharmacy candidates who refuse to obtain a drug screen within the time frame requested may have their offer of employment rescinded. If a Specialty Pharmacy candidate’s drug screen reveals a positive test result, dependent on the circumstances, his/her offer of employment may be rescinded.

A sign on bonus of $3,000 is being offered to external candidates - paid out at 6 months and 1 year from hire!

EDUCATION:

High School / GED plus one year of post high school education or related work experience. Self study or formal Technician Training to become Nationally Certified. Technicians will maintain their Pharmacy Technician Registration/License with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as well as their National Certification.

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years experience as a Senior Pharmacy Technician preferred. Demonstrated competence in all areas of Pharmacy Technician Trainee, Pharmacy Technician Certified and Senior Pharmacy Technician.
