- Recruitment: Identifying current and future talent needs and recruiting qualified professionals to grow our team, in collaboration with HDR’s recruiting team, and provide new employee mentoring.
- Management: Workload forecasting, work sharing with other structural teams, performance reviews, project staffing, morale, quality control, salary reviews, tracking budget status, scope of work, profitability and scope changes. Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload, and quality control issues. Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions,and coordinate services with other sections.
- Professional Development: Providing staff with opportunities for training, participation in professional organizations, and mentoring and advocating for staff in their paths to licensure and/or career advancement within HDR.
- Business Development: Networking with prospective clients, participating in project pursuits, identifying the right talent to serve projects, and developing scope and fee for potential projects. Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews.
- Internal and External Networking: maintaining relationships and ensuring high quality of service to external clients and internally with other HDR business groups, disciplines, project managers, structural teams, and leadership.
- Technical Leadership: ensuring that HDR’s standards and QA/QC policies are strictly followed, serving as QC reviewer for projects, serving as a technical resource for staff and colleagues, and cultivating a culture of quality and excellence.
- Project Management: Leading the structural design of projects for which you are Engineer of Record. Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects, with a willingness to engage in production activities, in addition to management responsibilities. See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management systems.
- Implement, monitor and support company policy, including HDR’s in-office practice.
- Perform other duties as needed
- Experience actively designing structures with IBC codes and standards, including minimum of 5 years of experience leading structural engineering projects and sealing as Engineer of Record.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering (ABET accredited) with emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and mentoring junior staff as described in the responsibilities portion of this job description.
- Demonstrated experience in structural design within some or all of the market sectors and project types referenced above, for both internal and external clients, from preliminary design through construction, including design calculations, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Deep understanding of IBC codes and referenced standards and demonstrated experience in design and construction of structural steel, concrete, and masonry structures.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
