We are fortunate to have a chance to make a difference every day - for the animals, for conservation, and for over 750,000 visitors annually.The part-time Lab Technician Assistant position provides essential laboratory support through routine water quality testing, bacterial monitoring, and laboratory maintenance. The Lab Tech Assistant works under the supervision of senior laboratory staff to ensure consistent water quality monitoring and proper laboratory operations. This position serves as an excellent training opportunity for students pursuing careers in aquatic sciences while providing critical support to the laboratory team.Key Responsibilities
1.Conducts routine water quality and bacteriology sampling and testing of exhibit and backup systems using standard laboratory equipment including probes, spectrophotometers, and reagents.
2.Maintains accurate water quality records, enters data into laboratory databases and tracking systems, and communicates findings to supervisory staff as required.
3.Maintains laboratory cleanliness and organization including trash removal, sweeping, equipment cleaning, and reagent preparation and restocking.
4.Performs work in a manner that fosters the Aquarium's mission and reflects its core values and service standards.
5.Assists with projects or research under the direction of senior laboratory staff
6.Provides backup support for routine laboratory operations during staff absences
7.Participates in safety training and maintains current knowledge of safety protocolsKey Requirements
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred but not required
  • Academic coursework in chemistry, biology or a similar field preferred
  • Computer proficiency for data entry and laboratory information monitoring
  • Communication skills to work effectively with laboratory team and report findings
  • Physical ability to work in laboratory conditions and handle laboratory equipment
Part-time, hourly ($15/hour); may require weekend and evening work.All submissions must be received by September 14, 2025.
