- Operates the communications systems within the hospital; to include the telephone system console, emergency communications equipment, paging system and physician registry system
- Communicates by telephone by connecting the patient to other services or taking appropriate information while upholding excellent customer service.
- Handles confidential information appropriately by protecting and disclosing information to only those authorized.
- Understands and follows all Switchboard departmental processes implemented.
- Prioritizes by assessing and analyzing information to identify immediate emergency needs.
- Demonstrates technical knowledge and competence in the departmental procedures and maintains current physician on-call schedules to ensure appropriate communication to ProHealth Care Physicians.
- Provides wayfinding instructions and assists with hospital information as requested.
- Meets or exceeds audit accuracy standards. Works worklists and error reports timely, and proactively seeks assistance to resolve as needed.
- May perform other duties upon request.
- Ensures revenue cycle integrity by understanding and updating/verifying all needs related to visit
- Reschedule patients when required due to provider or department schedule changes, inclement weather or other operational issues.
- Effectively work scheduling reports, registries and work queues in EMR and payer-generated reports to meet the needs of the system.
- Exemplifies characteristics of a change agent to the meet the needs of the department.
- High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products
- Previous customer service experience in an office setting or professional work environment
- Ability to work a variety of shifts to support a 24-hour operation system
- Ability to work 32 weekly hours, 11:00pm – 7:00am CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work weekends.
- Ability to work rotating holidays
- Ability to work 2-week rotation:
- Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Week 2: Sunday, Monday, Friday, Saturday
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with electronic medical records system
- Experience in a medical office or hospital admitting/registration office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environments
