Description of WorkNCDAC Purchasing Division HUB (Historically Underutilized Businesses) is seeking an enthusiastic HUB Program (Intern) to join our team and provide invaluable support to our HUB Liaison Manager. Your role will involve performing a variety of administrative tasks, including working with DAC's HUB Liaison Manager providing Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) vendors and Department of Adult Correction (DAC) End Users and Purchasing Section trainings and updates that are related to purchasing, follow up on information and/or documentation provisions necessary to ensure HUB vendors are a reliable and a good resource/partner for DAC's End Users.This internship will begin June 3, 2024, through August 9th, 2024, 30 hours per week.This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand experience in HUB operations and gain insight into our company's approach to procurement processes, statutes, rules, and regulations governing them.As an HUB Program Intern, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our HUD practices and procedures. Your attention to detail, organizational and communication skills will be utilized in maintaining vendor relationships and End Users.This internship will teach you how to do the following:
  • Procurement processes, statutes, rules, and regulations governing them.
  • Gain knowledge and the ability to coordinate activities of training and working with HUB vendors through DAC's Program that is housed in the Purchasing section.
  • Specific projects will include documenting standard operating procedures, continuous process improvement of workflows in small businesses and building out professional development and partnership pathways with DAC and other state agencies.
  • Will include some teaching and development of training materials for HUB vendors, one-on-one interviews, site visits and virtual trainings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
  • Basic to working knowledge of what a purchasing department is responsible for.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility able to learn.
Ability to apply rules, procedures, and practices analyzing and interpreting information, and making recommendations based on knowledge of current local, state, and national procurement initiatives (policy changes). Management Preferences:
An HUB program intern should have some experience in a similar junior procurement role, and or office assistant role, familiarity with NC eprocurement, proficiency in MS Office, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of purchasing department practices.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Currently enrolled junior or senior level standing at an accredited college/university with a major in an accredited 4-year degree or master's level in, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
  • Applicants must carry a 2.0 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2024.
  • Applicants must be continuing their education for the duration of their participation in the internship or on break (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work part-time throughout the duration of the internship.
  • Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
