The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine is seeking qualified candidates for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level to serve as the Director of Head and Neck Pathology. The academic appointment may be in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research and teaching effort. Incumbents in the HS series are expected to provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criterion for appointment in the Clinical X series. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in head and neck pathology and be prepared to lead this subspecialty service. Experience in academic settings is preferred. Background and interest in placental and/or autopsy pathology will be considered favorably but is not essential. Applicants must possess an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for or currently hold a California medical license. Mid-career or senior-level applicants are particularly encouraged to apply, although outstanding candidates at earlier stages of their careers may also be considered.The successful candidate is expected to have an excellent record of successful collaboration and professionalism in working with others, a record of university and/or professional service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be responsible for clinical services in head and neck as well as general surgical pathology, including on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.This position will serve the needs of UCI Health which include the 400+ bed state-of-the-art tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange, a new hospital and outpatient complex on the Irvine campus, and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.Founded in 1965, UCI is a top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report.
