The City of Zeeland is hiring an IT Network Engineer! In this role, you will have several different hands-on responsibilities, making every day unique. As an IT Network Engineer, you will ensure that the City of Zeeland and the Zeeland Board of Public Works are fully functioning within the IT space. You will help coordinate Information Technology projects and assist with implementation, configuration and maintenance of network and communication technologies while promoting a positive work culture.The City of Zeeland boasts a thriving local economy, supported by a mix of innovative manufacturing, agriculture, and family-owned businesses.   • Monitor network and server environment
  • Install network, system and server updates and security patches as appropriate
  • In coordination with vendors, provide network infrastructure and server support to staff
  • Assist departments with software and system implementations, upgrades and maintenance
  • Assist with configuring, installing and maintaining network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, routers and related equipment
  • Assist with configuring, installing and maintaining server infrastructure including virtual environment, Windows/Linux servers and related devices
  • Coordinate projects and successfully bring them to implementation/completion
  • Assist with policy development and implementation related to network operations, security, use of social media, use of Information Technology resources and related topics
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a business continuity plan
  • Serve as a liaison for committees or meetings where Information Technology presence is required
  • Assist in the development of requests for proposals related to department or organization wide Information Technology needs
  • Assist Information Technology Director with annual budgets and long-range planning for network/server infrastructure and related systems
Our ideal IT Network Engineer has the following job knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Associates Degree in Information Systems or related field of study, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3+ Years applied computer, network, and related systems experience
  • Industry certification from CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, VMWare or Other required
  • Able to effectively present technical information at various levels
  • Able to make presentations which may include public speaking
  • General Knowledge of conferencing systems and solutions
  • General Knowledge of network setup and configuration principles including internet protocols, routing, VLAN, DHCP
  • General Knowledge of network security principles and associated regulations
  • General Knowledge of firewall configuration including Port Forwarding, NAT, and VPN
  • General Knowledge of virtual server environments and current server operating systems
  • General Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory network and user configuration
  • General Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office 365
  • Working Knowledge of SCADA networks including radio and serial communication
  • Thorough Knowledge of desktop hardware, peripherals and current operating system versions
