SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Head Start Education Supervisor the Year-round Teacher manages all aspects of the Head Start classroom during the part-year program and Summer months of the Full Day/ Full Year program (before-and-after Head Start program year round) including general (day-to-day) supervision of the Teacher Assistant, Aide, volunteers and interns, and assisting in the other areas of the program when needed; working in conjunction with other classroom teachers and staff to provide high quality services to the children and families and to develop and implement the individualized education plans and goals for each child in coordination with parental input including development reports, lesson plans and activities for children through; daily communication, parent conferences and home visits Teachers are also responsible in providing active supervision and educational enrichment of children in a safe, inviting and comfortable environment ensuring ;the facility and playground areas are safe, the well-being and comprehensive care and education of the children are priority and on a consistent basis meet the social, emotional, physical, educational and intellectual needs of the children based on knowledge of early childhood theories and practices to provide high quality services to children and their families as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Policies and Procedures, Indian Health Services Tribal Health and Safety Code and Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines. This is a year-round positionDuties· Must understand and comply with all Head Start regulations as related to classroom services provided to the children and families; and supervise and provide daily guidance and training to other classroom staff and volunteers on how to effectively meet the social and emotional needs of the children and families.· Coordinate with other staff to plan; program environment, schedules, electronic and written lesson plans and other activities to be implemented daily in the classroom as outlined in the Creative Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards; and review them monthly to determine effectiveness.
· Assist in the daily nutrition program provided to the children, including assisting in the kitchen as needed; following all Child and Adult Food Program and Head Start Performance guidelines.· Collaborate with other programs to provide high quality services to the children and families and must be able to work with agencies to meet the needs of children with disabilities.· Must accurately track, record, document, maintain and monitor on a weekly basis; children’s files focused on-going observations; attendance, meal count “in kind” donations, daily cleaning, inventory and classroom safety checklists to include in monthly monitoring reports of classroom progress in meeting program goals and the Head Start Performance Standards.· Must be able to develop/follow a system for positive outcomes providing individual and small group experiences for all children, both indoors and outdoors using various strategies including experimentation, inquiry, observation, play and exploration to support each child’s learning.· Ensure that the program environment helps children develop emotional security and social relationships by enhancing each child’s understanding of self as an individual and as a member of a group using Positive Behavioral Support strategies to promote and support progress based on the observations and ongoing assessment of each child, and providing each child with opportunities for success to help develop feelings of competence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes toward learning.· Must plan and implement cultural language/activities relevant to the children and families in the program on a weekly basis.· Responsible for promoting and encouraging parent involvement by; developing positive relationships with parents, developing and maintaining an eligible volunteer participation list, conducting and attending monthly parent meetings, planning and attending program activities with a flexible schedule for home visits, activities and conference to accommodate working parents and based on family interest; also assisting the Family Services advocate in Family Engagement activities throughout the program year.· In coordination with the Education Supervisor, administers developmental screening of children with the first 45-days of their enrollment.
· Works effectively in a team environment and actively participates in joint problem solving; willingly cooperates with co-workers listening attentively to others; asks clarifying questions to gain a better understanding of the other person’s views and underlying assumptions, following rules, regulations, and policies; positively contributes to implementing changes

· Employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations work under intensive deadlines and interact with management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.
· Participate in weekly/monthly meetings in conjunction with Education Supervisor, Teacher Mentor and Family, Health and Disabilities Advocates and other staff to communicate and track progress of children and families to ensure participant growth in meeting goals established in Progress and Planning Reports, health statuses are updated, and progress is being made in meeting IEP goals, and meet individual needs.
· Promote and establish a positive relationship and communicate effectively with other staff and parents using daily communication and implementing positive working relationships with children, families and co-workers, utilizing a variety of communication styles like; informal telephone calls, face-to-face conversations, written correspondence, electronic mail and weekly newsletter, to provide timely; services, information, answers to questions, and guidance on a regular basis.· Communicate on a regular basis verbally, electronically and in writing to the Head Start management staff regarding program issues including concerns and recommendations, related to but not limited to children, families, staff and program.
· Participate in meetings and training as required by the Supervisor; to improve skills, abilities and to meet Head Start requirements.· Any deviation from regular scheduled work hours and/or activities employee is responsible for finding other staff to fill in for them and getting pre-approved by supervisor.
· Substitute in all areas of the Head Start program as needed.· Participates in all phases of Head Start and RSIC training program.
Performs other duties as required to be in compliance with RSIC Personnel Policies and Procedures and the Head start Performance Standards to help meet the needs of the Head Start program21Requirements· The Head Start Teacher will meet the qualifications for this position as specified in section 648A of the Head Start Act; must have a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a field related to early childhood education with a minimum of fifteen (15) credits completed in Early Childhood Education and; at least two (2) years of prior experience working in early childhood.
· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone; also regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds.· Able to maintain confidentiality of personal information about children, families, and staff.
· Able to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with knowledge of Tribal community and sensitivity to Native American Indian needs.
· Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age at time of hire and be eligible for participation in the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program.
· Have a valid Driver’s License and current DMV record submitted prior to date of hire.
· Must satisfactorily pass an annual physical examination and TB screening
· Must possess and maintain infant and adult CPR certification, First Aid certification, and a Food Handler’s Certification within three (3) months from date of hire and each year thereafter.
