Job Title: Utility LocatorFLSA: Hourly/Non-ExemptDepartment: Public Infrastructure/Water DivisionReports to: Water General ForemanThis job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this job. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this specification. Any essential function or requirement of this class will be evaluated as necessary should an incumbent/applicant be unable to perform the function or requirement due to a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).General Purpose:Under the general supervision of the Water General Foreman and locates City of Claremore Water, Sewer and Electric lines. Must also have the ability to perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of city water/sewer systems, facilities, streets, driveways and walkways. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Safety sensitive positions must comply to federal regulations where marijuana still remains illegal. Possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt safety sensitive positions from federal regulations. Should one of these safety sensitive positions test positive on a drug test and lose the ability to perform within the job description outline, the City of Claremore will implementEssential Functions:
  • Locates City of Claremore Water, Sewer and Electric lines.
​ * Responsible for being on call for emergency locates.​ * Inspects and/or repairs water distribution system and sewer system as needed, to insure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.​ * Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activities of both systems.​ * Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.​ * Contacts residents and business owners in an area where services will be disconnected and explains when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on.​ * Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.​ * Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.​ * Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to Foreman; cleans equipment.​ * Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.​ * Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.​ * Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipe, gates and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains.​ * Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the Water/Sewer Systems department.​ * Fills in for the meter reader, as needed.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
​ * Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.​ * Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.Jet Rodder Truck:
  • Thorough knowledge of operation and safety procedures for jet rodder truck.
  • Familiar with chemical applications used to treat the sanitary sewage system.
  • Climbs down into manholes and lift stations for maintenance repair and blockage removal. Thorough knowledge of confined space entry safety requirements is needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent.
​ * Valid Oklahoma state driver's license and CDL Class “B”, or ability to obtain one within 12 months is required.​ * Must be insurable with City’s insurance carrier.​ * This position requires the Maintenance Worker to hold a Certificate of Competency, as issued and required by state law from the Department of Environmental Quality and shall be the “D” level or higher classification. The Maintenance Worker shall have one year from the date of appointment to secure a “D” level or higher license classification as water and sewer work operator.Tools and Equipment:Motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, backhoe, saws, pumps, compressors, generators, jack hammer, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone.Physical Demands:
