- Interpret utility maps, construction plans, and as-builts to identify infrastructure.
- Use locating equipment (e.g., Ground Penetrating Radar, (GPR)) to mark the location of water, sewer, stormwater, and reclaimed utilities.
- Accurately document completed locates using handheld or mobile devices.
- Respond to Sunshine 811 locate tickets in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinate with contractors, developers, and Town staff to resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with utility inspections, minor repairs, and infrastructure assessments as needed.
- Provide support during emergencies and utility outages, including storm recovery.
- Maintain all locating tools and equipment in good working order.
- Adhere to all Town safety policies and procedures, including confined space and traffic control protocols.
- Participate in after-hours emergency response rotation, as assigned.
- Operate a variety of equipment, such as trucks, forklifts, backhoes, and jackhammers, to complete assigned tasks.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensure safe loading/unloading, and perform basic maintenance and repairs.
- Attend safety meetings and follow established safety protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and the public.
- Work the assigned schedule, Monday through Friday, and participate in an on-call rotation for weekend or after-hours support.
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the position and responsibilities as a public employee.
- Attends all assigned meetings.
- Performs emergency response tasks and assignments as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in utility locating, underground construction, or related field..
- Valid Florida Driver's License (Class B CDL preferred)
- Florida Utility Locator Certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Utility locating practices and procedures, including Sunshine 811 regulations.
- Underground utility systems including water, sewer, reclaimed water, and stormwater.
- Utility maps, construction drawings, GIS mapping tools, and as-built plans.
- Safe work practices in and around traffic, construction zones, and confined spaces.
- Proper use and maintenance of locating equipment (e.g., electromagnetic locators, GPR).
- Federal, state and local laws relevant to the work performed and the application of such.
- Safety standards and traffic control requirements for work zones.
- Occupational safety rules, practices and personal protective equipment associated with performing duties using heavy equipment, in traffic and in adverse weather conditions.
- Daily inspection and identification of defects and maintenance requirements.
- The safe operation of utility locating devices and interpreting data accurately.
- Reading and understanding utility maps and technical drawings.
- Safely and accurately using GPS devices and mobile technology to record field data.
- Performing fieldwork in a safe, efficient, and organized manner.
- Communicating clearly and professionally with contractors, residents, coworkers and all contacted through the course of daily work.
- Basic mathematics and measurements.
- Problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues effectively.
- Work independently in the field and manage daily locate assignments successfully.
- Troubleshoot utility conflicts and resolve discrepancies in the field.
- Follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records in accordance with Town procedures.

- Perform preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Listen and follow instructions and standard operating procedures.
- The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavy objects up to 100 pounds with the assistance of other employees and/or equipment as appropriate. Requires excellent eye/hand/foot coordination for operating standard and specialized electrical and gas- operated equipment.
- This position requires the ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and potentially dangerous environments for field or emergency related work as needed.
