Job Description:Job SummaryA visionary, entrepreneurial professional to serve as the inaugural Foundation Development Director. This individual will be responsible for researching, establishing, and preparing to launch the official Duval County Public Schools Foundation from the ground up. As there is currently no foundation, the director will be charged with designing the model, working closely with district leadership, the School Board, state foundation directors, and key stakeholders, and ensuring all legal, organizational, and operational aspects are established for a sustainable and impactful foundation.Essential Functions1. Research and assess best practices for K-12 educational foundations at the local, state, and national levels to inform strategic planning.2. Develop the mission, vision, governance model, policies, and strategic priorities for the new DCPS Foundation.3. Lead the establishment of the foundation’s legal standing, including 501(c)(3) filing, state registrations, and regulatory compliance.4. Collaborate with the School Board, DCPS leadership, legal counsel, and state foundation directors to recommend bylaws and governance structures, to ensure the foundation’s structure meets all regulatory requirements, and best serves the district and its students.5. Build strong relationships with district staff, business and community leaders, parents, alumni, and other stakeholders to generate enthusiasm and support for the foundation’s launch.6. Design and implement initial strategies for donor engagement, marketing, and community outreach.7. Oversee the creation of foundational documents, branding, web presence, and donor management systems.8. Identify and pursue early funding opportunities, including grants, major gifts, and strategic partnerships, and stay abreast of trends in educational philanthropy, nonprofit governance, and school district foundations to guide ongoing development.9. Establish metrics and reporting systems to track the foundation’s development and ensure accountability to the Board and public.10. Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Advanced degree in nonprofit management, public administration, education, or related field preferred.Experience: Three years of experience in nonprofit or foundation start-up, organizational development, or related leadership role. Experience working with or in public school districts or educational foundations, and/or knowledge of Jacksonville and Duval County community and philanthropic landscape preferred.Certifications & Licenses: NAKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
