
Staff Software Systems Engineer, Mail and Messaging

- Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems and services supporting Mail & Messaging infrastructure.
- Write production-grade code in Python (or JavaScript, Java, or Go) to support scalable, high-performance systems.
- Design and implement APIs, service integrations, and backend logic for mail-related services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the stack-from infrastructure to application logic.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architectural planning.
- Contribute to automation and configuration management using tools like Ansible or Puppet.
- Build orchestration workflows by leveraging features of the ServiceNow platform.
- Support containerized deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience with Linux and Linux-based services running at scale.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, with the ability to design and implement complex systems.
- Experience working on mail systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet is a plus.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and system performance.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Knowledge of security best practices in systems and application development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
