Implements and maintains system infrastructure to support, maintain and achieve overall coding excellence and compliance in order to ensure accurate statistics and appropriate reimbursement. Works collaboratively with all areas of the Revenue Cycle team to meet departmental and Company goals, assuring timely processing of accounts. Analyze processes for improvements and prioritize ideas that provide workflow efficiencies, cost savings, and improved customer satisfaction. Stay apprised of local, state, and federal legislation, regulatory guidance, and payor policies impacting coding activities, and modifying functions as needed to improve quality and efficiency.Leads all coding related functions for all facilities within Ensemble, including auditing, training, quality and productivity, policies and procedures, compliance, government and regulatory body guidelines and requirements. Ensures the Coding Department in each facility supports and abides by the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, while maintaining an emphasis on client and physician satisfaction.Manages and leads the coding leadership within the coding team. Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates coders, supervisors, managers and directors; timely follow up with associates regarding employment and performance management in accordance with Company policies; ensures competency of coding staff by conducting on-going regular reviews and skills assessments and provides action plans and timely, constructive feedback as needed.Maintains knowledge of all federal, state, coding and documentation guidelines and communicates changes to all coding staff. Knowledgeable of all coding audit processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and to support accurate statistics and reimbursement for Clients.Pursues opportunities to improve operational efficiencies, including recommendations for use of technology. Keeps abreast of industry trends and evidence-based best practices. Performs cost-benefit analysis, with submission of recommendations, for initiatives that will improve Coding Operations efficiencies and/or provide financial improvements throughout Ensemble.In conjunction with the Director II Clinical Documentation, develops ongoing coding education programs based on regulatory changes and/or areas identified by quality audits for improvement; communicates to coding leadership regarding any areas that may warrant additional review of coding processes or education.Collaborates with other coding leaders to coordinate coding activities, improve workflows, and achieve goals. Facilitates the flow of information between all coding specialty teams. Collaborate with market leadership and staff on an as-needed basis. Generates and analyzes weekly and monthly reports to identify opportunities for continuous improvement by markets; provides feedback, develops and implements action plans when appropriate.Develops and monitors implementation of market departmental goals/objectives and performance improvement processes; develops policies and procedures for the documentation improvement program and defines work flows for process improvement enhancement; monitors relations and ensures contract compliance with selected coding vendors. Routinely re-evaluates the cost-effectiveness of technology and/or outsourcing of various job functions.Generates, analyzes, and communicates quality, productivity and other reports as requested on a regular basis. Utilize data analytics to monitor coding performance and identify areas for enhancements. Collaborate with IT and other departments to monitor coding applications, perform testing updates, and collaborate on ways to optimize coding software and tools. Revises system policies and procedures as needed to comply with regulatory guidelines and to provide excellent customer service.Chairs system meetings; meets regularly with the markets' coding leaders; coaches market supervisors to provide coding updates and improvement opportunities and any applicable updates in regulatory guidelines in conjunction with the coding education and quality supervisor.Develop and support the annual departmental budget to ensure compliance with organizational budgetary requirements.Job CompetenciesLeadership Decision Making - Makes day-to-day leadership decisions by securing and comparing information from multiple sources to identify issues; commits to an action after weighing alternative solutions against important criteria; effectively communicates decisions to the appropriate people and teams and holds them accountable.
