This role supports year-round engagement experiences, cultivates relationships with families, and drives recruitment and retention of campers and staff, particularly from diverse backgrounds — including Campers of Color, LGBTQ+ campers, campers with disabilities, and others from underrepresented communities. In partnership with the Camp Director and leadership team, the Assistant Director advances the URJ’s mission to foster inclusive communities of belonging, where young people are empowered to build a better world and engage in Jewish life throughout their lives.What You Will DoCamp LeadershipChampion camper and staff well-being by fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement engaging, mission-aligned summer and year-round programming.Plan, coordinate, and execute camp programs and retreats year-round, initiating and following through on projects that enhance camp operations or introduce new ideas.Provide year-round support to CLASP Fellows through one-on-one check-ins and cohort meetings.Engage with the URJ Camping System’s national cohort, contributing to regional and national projects and professional development opportunities.Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, ensuring OSRUI reflects and lives out Jewish values and commitments to racial equity, inclusion, and belonging.ENGAGEMENT, RECRUITMENT & RETENTIONCoordinate congregational visits, parlor meetings, and other recruitment efforts (including camp tours), including evenings and weekends.Build a strong, mission-driven camper and staff community through year-round engagement and professional development.Support staff lifecycle: design roles, recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, and engage in URJ strategic priorities beyond the summer.Supervise select staff and operational areas during the summer.Cultivate future leaders through staff development initiatives and collaboration with URJ network.Lead the FJC Cornerstone Fellowship at OSRUI, including identifying and supervising Fellows.Year-Round EngagementDevelop a year-round calendar of recruitment and engagement events that:Deepen engagement for current OSRUI campers in the URJ networkAttract new campers and staff, with focus on underrepresented identitiesEngage teens through NFTY and other strategiesBuild relationships with congregational partnersPartner in planning, recruiting, and executing Family Retreat Weekends at OSRUI.Collaborate with MarComm to share event details with current and prospective stakeholders.Who You AreYou are a dynamic, compassionate, and creative leader who thrives on building inclusive communities and engaging young people in meaningful Jewish experiences. You focus on creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and supported, regardless of their background, identity, or experience.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to work on-site in Oconomowoc, WI for extended periods during the summer and at other peak times, with flexibility to work virtually at other times of year.Willingness to travel as needed for recruitment, URJ gatherings, and professional development.Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours during the summer camp season.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, youth development, Jewish studies, or a related field.
