Our rich diversity of people and ideas makes us a stronger, more innovative organization.Job SummaryThe Underground Lineman is responsible for performing diversified work related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. This position supports the Line team and works with other personnel from various departments.
Responsibilities
  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
  • Lead crew and represent the Company in absence of the Foreman.
  • Effectively conduct pre-job briefings.
  • Possess a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution.
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Capable of operating a backhoe
  • Capable of safely operating and maintaining company equipment.
  • Possesses knowledge of tools for terminating cable.
  • Understands grounding procedures.
  • Understands confined space requirements.
  • Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up.
  • Understands underground services, infrastructure and duct banks.
  • Understands how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Capable of planning safe work based on a job print or work order.
  • Promote safety at all times.
  • Performs all other related work as required to complete the job.
QualificationsMinimum
  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Understands flag and tag procedures.
  • Possesses a CDL or able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Able to use hand tools on a continuous basis.
  • Capable of being exposed to dirt and power on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge in identifying underground utility locates.
  • Possesses knowledge of tools for terminating cable.
  • Capable of terminating different sizes of cable.
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting underground circuits.
  • Able to identify unforeseen obstacles that would hinder safety or production.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
Preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
