(Contingent upon available funding):13.00 - 26.60, HourlyWork Schedule:Shift work (may include overnight, weekends, holidays)Faculty Appt Period:Job Summary:Position for enthusiastic veterinary assistant or registered veterinary technician with a passion for emergency and critical care. Successful candidates will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care. Preference for applicants that have an associate degree in veterinary technology (or equivalent) and licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or eligible for RVT license in Oklahoma.This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. Also has free access to OSU's gym and fitness centers, employee assistance program, and free professional development through main campus's human resources department.The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24-hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our Critical Care Unit is a state-of-the-art facility and is staffed with capable, competent technicians. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-EvacĀ® suction units, and ventilator therapy. Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years
related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related
area; or DVM degree or equivalent.Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages. Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.Preferred Qualifications:Associate degree in Veterinary Technology and five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).
