Growing together.The Chief Growth Officer (CGO) for Specialty Benefits is a senior executive responsible for architecting and executing enterprise-wide growth strategies across the Specialty Benefits portfolio, which includes Dental, Vision, Financial Protection, Supplemental Health, Stop Loss and Hearing. This role is pivotal in driving sustainable and profitable growth through innovative distribution models, strategic market development, and seamless cross-functional collaboration. The CGO will oversee growth initiatives across diverse market segments, including National Accounts, Local Markets, and Small Business.You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Strategic Growth Leadership:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive growth strategy aligned with Specialty Benefits objectives and broader enterprise goals
  • Lead initiatives to expand market share across Commercial and Private Label channels, leveraging data driven insights and competitive intelligence
Sales & Distribution Oversight:
  • Provide strategic direction to national and regional sales teams, including Regional Vice Presidents and Market Solution leaders
  • Establish performance benchmarks and drive execution against aggressive growth targets
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with Local Market and National Account sales teams to achieve sales and persistency goals
  • Collaborate with Product, Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial Pricing, Healthcare Economics, Operations, and Technology to ensure growth strategies are customer-centric and operationally feasible
Performance Management:
  • Oversee the Specialty Growth Reporting Package and dashboards, ensuring actionable insights are used to drive field performance and accountability. Develop or eliminate training that generates growth in areas of strategic importance
  • Disciplined awareness and supported alignment of pricing and profitability balanced with growth
  • Translate analytics into actionable insights to enhance field performance, accountability, and strategic decision-making
Leadership Development:
  • Build and mentor a high-performing leadership bench within the Specialty Growth organization
  • Management of a diverse team of leaders to generate continuously improving results
  • Foster a culture of innovation, agility, and disciplined execution
Executive Communication:
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO of Specialty Benefits
  • Represent the growth agenda to internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, partners, and clients
  • Active participation in Specialty Benefits senior leadership team and broad growth strategy
Brand Management:
  • Fidelity to a go-to-market strategy that positions UHC and sub-brands as a valued asset in the market. Engage Marketing teams on strategies to improve UHC and sub-brands position in the marketplace and achieve top 5 market share status in each product

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in health benefits, insurance, or related industries
  • Proven success in driving revenue growth and market expansion within complex, matrixed organizations
  • Disciplined approach to profitability, penetration, persistency and product
  • Deep understanding of Specialty Benefits products and distribution models
  • Solid strategic thinking, analytical, and financial acumen
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading national sales teams and collaborating with regional market leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through transformation and scale new capabilities
  • Deep understanding of product drivers of growth and profitability
  • Track record of fostering innovation and operational excellence in dynamic environments
