
Mechanical Engineer I

- Assess customer needs and recommend equipment from existing product lines in order to fulfill those needs. Existing product lines include: filtration, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and chemical feed systems for boilers, cooling towers, secondary disinfection, and waste water applications.
- Read and interpret customer specifications/requirements.
- Design custom solutions using engineering methods in order to meet customer needs that cannot be met with standard offerings.
- Prepare written equipment quotations and technical instructions for field personnel using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Provide field engineering support for Chem-Aqua’s 350 sales representatives across the US, including sales, technical assistance, equipment start-up/commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Manage custom application engineering projects throughout the entire manufacturing process, including quoting, designing, overseeing manufacturing, testing, field start-up/commissioning, and training of field and customer personnel.
- Produce scaled mechanical and electrical drawings, P&IDs, and assembly instructions of water treatment equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD for use in manufacturing and customer documentation.
- Create and update accurate bills-of-material for manufactured products.
- Train employees, field personnel, and customers in the equipment, tools, work techniques, and skills required to accomplish assignments.
- Complete special design projects set forth by the Equipment Engineering Manager. Projects include innovative systems in water treatment that help drive Chem-Aqua’s sales growth.
- Must have a BSE degree with a specialization in Mechanical. May consider applicants with an electrical specialization, so long as the applicant shows a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Must be knowledgeable in drafting methods and be proficient in 2D & 3D CAD software programs.
- Proficient use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must have a general knowledge of electrical systems and how to use a multimeter.
- Ability to use and program analytical and control equipment.
- Must know how to use hand and power tools.
- Must have physical strength and ability to lift up to 40 pounds and carry such a weight for 100 feet.
- Must have good visual ability for close-up observations and use of analytical and control equipment
- Must have good depth perception and ability to distinguish different colors.
- Must have hearing sufficient to hear verbal and audible signals at a moderate distance.
- Must have a valid Drivers License and reliable transportation.
- Must have reading ability sufficient to read technical manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, trade magazines, codes, and other technical materials.
- Must have writing ability sufficient to write correspondence, proposals, technical literature, and instructions.
- Must have good communication skills to deal with the public and to work cooperatively with sales force and other company employees.
- Employees are required upon hire to pass a physical and drug test.
