Through this model, QCH seeks to meet young adults who are in need of services and often distrustful of, and/or disconnected from schools and service providers where they are, build relationships with them, and engage them in recreational and positive youth development programming. QCH then seeks to build on these relationships and engage young people in programming to support high school graduation, college access and success, and career success.Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Program Director of Teen Outreach will oversee the implementation and expansion of the Hot Spots model across five (5) QCH sites. The Program Director will directly supervise teen outreach and programming for approximately 100 teens and young adults, between the ages of 13 - 24, at two locations: Forest Hills Community Center and Pomonok locations. Additionally, the director will work in partnership with the leadership and staff of three (3) Beacon programs to coordinate the implementation of the Hot Spots model at QCH’s three Beacon community center programs. The Program Director of Teen Outreach will provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of program goals according to policies and standards set forth by agencies and funders. The Program Director will also coordinate with QCH staff across departments to ensure that teen outreach work is integrated into QCH’s holistic approach to strengthening families through community hubs. This position will be responsible for the supervision of staff, program assessment and evaluation and contractual compliance.Responsibilities:
  • Train staff and oversee the replication of QCH’s nationally recognized Hot Spot model across departments.
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate and support the professional development of two (2) Youth Outreach Workers.
  • Develop and execute an outreach and special events plan that engages youths in the community; increase and maintain participation in our services and programs.
  • Deepen neighborhood strengthening focus/hub model by assisting with two additional services (directly or through partners) and two community events each year at QCH Beacon programs (responsive to priorities expressed through the community surveys).
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly Wellness meetings.
  • Serve as a technical assistant and crisis responder for staff, consultants and volunteers in charge of teen activities as well as provide staff coverage when needed.
  • Design, implement and assess educational, leadership and recreational programming/curricula that respond to the needs and interests of participants and their families.
  • In collaboration, develop and supervise mentorships that support participants throughout their enrollment process and beyond.
  • Create and enhance collaborations/partnerships with the agency’s various internal programs, schools, local service providers, cultural institutions and civic groups to help meet the needs and interests of current and potential participants.
  • Facilitate soft hand-off for new participants interested in career and education services i.e. Queens Connect, YouthBuild, Transfer/YABC schools, NICE, SYEP, and CASP.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations including city/state agencies and all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all statistical and narrative information required by organizations, city agencies, or other funding sources is completed and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that all respective program goals and outcomes are achieved.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary staff in cross-departmental efforts to increase services to specific youth populations and provide appropriate support for young people when applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • MA in Education, Social Work, Higher Education or related field preferred with minimum 3 years supervisory and work experience with teens and young adults in a community center/non-profit setting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with youth and young adults in a community center, school/non-profit setting.
  • Proven experience with youth development principles and career development.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through on assignments.
