The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Accountant at North Texas Area Command, located in Dallas, TX.Job Summary:Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of the financial operations for the DFW Metroplex Command Finance Department including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and all general ledger transactions; assists in ensuring the financial integrity of financial records; prepares financial information.Essential Functions:This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.Financial Responsibilities (100%)Assists in review of accounting records, ledgers and statements for accuracy and completeness; this includes (but is not limited to) preparation of journals, various ledger activity, maintenance of the chart of accounts; ensures accuracy and completeness of the same.Assists in selecting qualified Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff; assists in planning and conducting orientation and on-the-job training for the same.Generates, reconciles and reviews assigned ledger accounts for accuracy, on a monthly basis; prepares correcting journal entries. Provides balance sheet reconciliations to Assistant Finance Manager on a monthly basis.Assists in reviewing trial balance/accounts for integrity before closing the books both monthly and annually.Assists in reviewing payroll related journals for all the DFWMC as assigned.Assists in processing payroll as assigned.Prepares check requests as needed.Assists the Assistant Finance Manager with the Grants Processing each month.Assists the Assistant Finance Manager with processing the EFA requests.Reconciles bank accounts for the Command and forwards files to local unit when assigned.Assists in providing accounting support to employees at the Corps and Service Center locations on how to run queries using the financial software, including how to properly perform data entry for check writing, and receipt entry, and how to run all reports.Assists the Finance Manager in entering annual budgets for assigned locations.Assists in proofing and editing entries, including receipts, journals and disbursements to the general ledger.Assists in generating and verifying the accuracy of assigned monthly reports related to the close of the Great Plains Financial module.Assists with audit preparation for assigned units.Other Responsibilities:Travels to local Corps as needed.Prepares check requests as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.Materials and Equipment:Personal Computer General Office Equipment Micro Film ReaderAdding Machine Telephone Fax MachineKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.Knowledge of accounting terminology, practices and procedures.Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.Knowledge of manual and full accrual automated accounting systems including general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable.Knowledge of Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office programs with demonstrated skill in the use of Excel, Word and Access.Knowledge of Great Plains software.Ability to function within a computerized, double-entry, full accrual accounting environment.Ability to organize and maintain files of accounting records.Ability to apply attention to detail and to perform assigned work at a level of proficiency that will limit the impact of errors.Ability to process financial documents in compliance with established policies and procedures.Ability to read and interpret financial statements to provide cash flow management.Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external sources.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Education and Experience:Associate’s degree from accredited college or university in Business Administration or related fieldandThree years work in accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or payroll accompanied by experience working in a religious, charitable organization preferredorAny equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Certifications:Valid State Drivers LicensePhysical Requirements:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.Ability to operate general office equipment, including a telephone, typewriter, computer and adding machine.Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to other employees requiring assistance.Duties are usually performed seated.
