Location: Providence, RI (Hybrid Onsite/Remote as required) Position OverviewThe State of Rhode Island is seeking a highly skilled Project Manager to lead and oversee technology and business initiatives across state agencies. The Project Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects on time, within scope, and within budget, while ensuring compliance with state policies, regulations, and strategic objectives.This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and interact effectively with business stakeholders, technical staff, and external vendors. Key ResponsibilitiesLead the planning, execution, and delivery of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with agency and statewide goals.Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and quality standards.Facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, including business users, technical teams, vendors, and executive leadership.Ensure project documentation (charters, status reports, risk logs, change requests, etc.) is maintained and compliant with state requirements.Utilize project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid) appropriate to the project and agency needs.Identify and mitigate project risks and issues while escalating critical concerns to leadership when necessary.Lead regular status meetings, prepare reports, and present updates to stakeholders and steering committees.Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and effective communication across project teams.Ensure compliance with State of Rhode Island IT and procurement policies, standards, and governance frameworks. Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Project Management, or related field (equivalent experience may be considered).5+ years of experience managing complex IT and/or business process projects, preferably within government or public sector environments.Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet).Strong understanding of project management methodologies (PMBOK, Agile, PRINCE2, etc.).Excellent communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred QualificationsProject Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification.Experience working with State or Federal government agencies.
