Position Status: The Salish Foothills area is seeking to recruit for two (2) permanent Senior Park Aide positions located at and .As a Senior Park Aide working at Camano Island and Cama Beach Historical State Parks, you will play a vital role in supporting the preservation of unique pieces of Washington's history while providing visitors a quality recreation experience at two of the most scenic parks in the state. Located on the shores of Saratoga Passage, one mile apart from each other, both parks offer sweeping views of the Puget Sound, Whidbey Island, and the Olympic mountains as you're surrounded by Camano Island's cedar-filled forests and marshy lowlands. In this dynamic position, you'll take on both independent and team-based responsibilities, including facility and grounds maintenance, overnight and day-use rental preparation, campground operations, visitor service and engagement, as well as assisting in the coordination of seasonal staff and our numerous wonderful Parks volunteers.The Senior Park Aide is supported by an exceptional team of Rangers, an outstanding and proactive Maintenance crew, and a group of approachable Support Staff and Managers. If you're looking to grow your skills, contribute meaningfully to public lands, and take pride in your work in a truly breathtaking setting, we look forward to hearing from you.About the position: Under the supervision of the Park Ranger 1, this position is essential to the state park's mission of operating, enhancing, and protecting our Parks' recreational, cultural, historical, and natural sites. The Senior Park Aide assists and contributes to all aspects of park operations including but not limited to janitorial, groundskeeping, light maintenance, and customer service duties. This position is also capable of leading work responsibilities with Park Aides and volunteers.This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions.DutiesDuties include, but are not limited to:Assists Park Rangers in maintaining all facilities in a condition that is operationally functional, clean, and safe for the public and staff:
  • Cleans and disinfects all publicly used facilities such as restrooms, cabins, day-use shelters, event centers, welcome centers, and registration stations according to Agency standards and Park cleaning schedules.
  • Records all performed bathroom spot checks, bucket cleanings, and Government Inspections (GI) on bathroom maintenance logs.
  • Ensures all rented day-use facilities are clean before and after events.
  • Identifies and reports all electrical, plumbing, infrastructure, vehicle, and safety concerns to supervisor and Construction & Maintenance staff.
  • Assists Park Rangers and Construction & Maintenance staff in maintaining facilities, cabins, structures, restrooms, park grounds, vehicles, equipment, tools, campsites, picnic sites, BBQs, firepits, trails, fences, roads, and parking lots to Agency standards.
  • Regularly inspects all historical cabins and buildings that are not currently open to the public.
  • Implements rodent-control strategies at the direction of supervisor and Area Manager.
  • Maintains Park grounds using mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, trimmers, and brush cutters.
  • Independently operates Park vehicles to perform maintenance duties.
Assists with customer service and the Central Reservation System (CRS):
  • Provides information to guests and visitors regarding Park rules and regulations, local events, activities, interpretive programs, and historical information.
  • Assists guests who are checking into cabins, campsites, and day-use facilities; sets codes, provides paperwork, and unlocks facilities, as needed.
Meets and maintains State Park business management objectives:
  • Completes monthly reports on time, examples include timesheets, WEX/Vehicle Usage Reports, vehicle inspections, etc.
  • Ensure all safety parameters are being met and followed; assist with regular safety checks and participate in safety meetings; complete all incident reports within the 24-hour reporting period.
Requirements: Uniform: All permanent Senior Park Aides are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Senior Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks' employee. This position will receive 4 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after year 1), 1 jacket (per 5 calendar years), 1 baseball cap, a clothing stipend of $150.00 per calendar year. Stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.Working Conditions: Position works five (5) days a week. Work schedules for Cama Beach are typically Sunday - Thursday and for Camano Island are Tuesday - Saturday. Core hours are expected to be adjusted based on business needs and will vary based on season dates. This position may be required to travel and overnight travel periodically between parks and statewide for meetings, training and other field work. This position works primarily in a park or field setting including indoor and outdoor work environments. Tasks vary which require attending to customer service and maintenance needs in various weather conditions including inclement weather and work must be performed in all types of terrain.QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Option 1:Twelve (12) months of experience in building maintenance or grounds keeping, or performing semi-skilled/general carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work and a valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses) and at least 18 years old.Option 2:Six (6) months cumulative experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent) and a valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses) and at least 18 years old.Option 3:Twelve (12) months experience in a special employment program (Washington Conservation Corps) with a park's agency. A combination of experience (WCC and Park Aide) may be used provided candidate has at least three months experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent) and a valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses) and at least 18 years old.
