More than a membership, the Houses provide inclusive spaces to dine, work, and discover through daily programming, unique amenities, and connection opportunities with other members.Position DescriptionThe Staff Accountant will maintain the Company's financial records for one of the Company's locations, including, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash activity, inventory, revenue, expenses and payroll. The position will work with the Senior Accountant and Assistant Controller to help prepare financial statements and develop analysis for location owners. Additionally, the position will prepare reconciliations monthly for each location's balance sheet accounts, prepare and research sales and use tax returns, and support location management with accounting needs. This position is primarily remote. However, some in person may be required so candidates must reside where there is a Common House (Richmond, VA, Charlottesville, VA, Chattanooga, TN, and New Orleans, LA)Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Reporting
  • Record revenue, expenses, payroll and inventory
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts on monthly basis
  • Respond to questions raised by ownership on the financials or any other financial questions
  • Research for operations team
  • Manage and file various licensing and permitting remittances throughout the year for each house
  • Accounts Payable
Payments
  • Weekly check runs
  • Management of credit cards
  • Management of all online payments
  • Monthly Sales & Meals/Alcohol/Occupancy tax remittance
  • Manage expense reimbursements on Ramp
A/P Automation
  • Vendor onboarding including collection of W-9's
  • 1099 reporting
  • Management of coding and reports
  • Assisting other team members to use reports
  • Accounts Receivable
Collections
  • Report on delinquent dues
  • Reconcile Membership collections and projections
Deposits
  • Record and deposit cash sales weekly
  • Deposit checks as needed
Inventories
  • Assist as needed
To be successful in this role, you must be:
  • An Experienced Practitioner: A bachelor's degree or commensurate experience is required. We are seeking someone with a minimum of 2 years' demonstrated experience (and evident interest) in start-up or small business accounting and finance management- including finance and accounting process and procedure development.
  • Numbers Obsessed: This role centers around Common House financial and accounting operations. Alongside the Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for helping the team produce the financial statements, responding to questions from ownership, and helping find ways to improve the company's expense profile.
  • A Servant Leader: You will interact daily with the Assistant Controller and House Leadership to ensure books are closed, expenses are paid and number stories are being effectively and accurately communicated. You must have the ability– and more importantly desire– to work cross-functionally with the C-suite and location managers on a regular basis to ensure accounting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Bonus points for a CPA certification and experience in and passion for the hospitality or events industry.

Additionally, we'll take your industry tech recommendations to heart, so come prepared to tell us what works and what doesn't. Must be proficient in Quickbooks Online, Microsoft, Google Suite and other Operations-specific tools.Nimble & Focused – No day is ever the same at Common House, which means no day in this role will be the same either. Your ability to keep the team on track through the chaos of house grand openings, strategic planning, and running our daily operations will be critical.
