
Surgical Medical Assistant/Scheduler

- Schedule Mohs surgery cases and coordinate with patients, providers, and surgical teams.
- Educate patients on the Mohs procedure, pre-operative instructions, and post-operative care.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for patient questions related to their surgery.
- Rotate onto the Mohs floor to assist with surgical procedures, set up and break down trays, sterilize instruments, and support the surgeon as needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in the electronic medical record (EMA).
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
- Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
- Anesthesia/Inject for procedures.
- Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
- Must maintain HIPAA compliance
- Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
- Able to triage patient problems.
- Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
- High School Graduate or GED required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor's degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
- CPR certified preferred.
- 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
- Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
- Use of hands and fingers.
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
- Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
