- Under the general supervision of the Project Administrator perform highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout including making, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests
- Coordinate and manage lower level inspectors
- Maintain daily reports of inspection work along with detail records of project progress
- Review Contract documents to verify compliance plans and specifications
- Coordinate materials sampling and verification testing and verifying sufficient testing has been performed in MAC
- Coordinate with contractors' staff and effectively communicate with all parties
- Perform standard mathematical calculations
- Attend and participate as needed in project meetings
- High school graduate or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in construction inspection, two (2) years of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection with the exception of Complex Category 2 (CC2) bridge structures or a Civil Engineering degree and one (1) year of road & bridge CEI experience with the ability to earn additional required qualifications within one year
- Must have supervised two or more inspectors and must have been directly responsible for all inspection requirements related to the construction operations assigned.
- Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra, geometry, trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas.
- Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, SiteManager, MAC and/or OneDrive.
- Experienced with FDOT construction inspection and procedures
- Must possess good interpersonal, coordination and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work either day or night shifts, weekends and/or flexible schedules as required to support the project requirements
- Ability to accept assignments requiring extended travel
- Highly-motivated and able to work independently, use own judgment and make good decisions.
- Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports
- Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans, standards and contract specifications
- Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion.
- Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks
- Must be able to lift and carry up-to 70 pounds, on occasion
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions
- Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive
