The Department of Pathology is seeking to fill a support Services Specialist (working title: Blood Drive Lead) position to provide essential administrative and operational support at off-site blood drive locations. Collaborates with administrative staff to plan for, implement and evaluate blood drives. Provides training and leadership to staff, providing direct staffing report as needed to maintain coverage. Assists with loading, transporting, and setting up blood drive equipment. Regular driver of blood center vehicles and must be authorized to drive university vehicles through fleet services. This position is 100% time, primarily Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:30 pm, with occasional earlier and later shifts as necessary to accommodate blood drives, and occasional weekend days.Duties to include:· Screens blood donors for eligibility· Responds to donor adverse reactions.· Performs inspections prior to blood drives to ensure space, technical, and other requirements are met.· Collects whole blood and apheresis blood components.· Serves as primary contact for sponsors and donors during blood drives.· Engages potential donors through tele-recruitment activities.For a full job description, please send an e-mail to the contact listed below.The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas.   • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ years of experience in supervising staff
  • Public contact experience with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety program qualifications.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience in healthcare with direct patient care
  • 1+ years of experience in health care supervision
  • Experience in or knowledge of the blood banking industry
  • Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy.
  • Ability to operate and perform skilled maintenance on various types of highly specialized medical equipment.
  • Ability to perform quality control of equipment.
