This is a non-Mohs position for Toledo Clinic's Dermatology Lab located in Monroe, MI working under the direction of the Physician, and Lab Manager. This position is one day per week, 5:45 am-1:45pm with a potential for more, including covering time off for all laboratory staff.Length of training will be dependent on experience and will take place at the Dermatology Lab located in Lambertville, MI.General Summary:Organizes, processes, sections, stains, and otherwise prepares tissue for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist while following all standard operating procedures of the laboratory. The candidate must be able to work as a team with other laboratory staff in meeting workload demands in any needed areas of the laboratory.Principal Duties & Responsibilities:Example of Essential Duties: * Gross, embed, section, and stain skin, hair, and nail specimens
  • Ensures patient slides are printed and appropriately labeled
  • Manually hand stain special stain and immunohistochemical slides
  • Maintain/troubleshoot/resolve all laboratory equipment, documenting corrective actions
  • Be available (on-call) during the night, any day of the week to come into the laboratory to troubleshoot or repair any tissue processor malfunctions upon request
  • Enter and receive data and results accurately in all EHR systems
  • Keep histology stocked, clean, and free of debris
  • File material after testing is complete
  • Prepare consultation and additional testing material for send out upon request
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and uses the system to report potential safety issues
  • Follows assigned work professionally and efficiently, prioritizing workload.
Other Essential Duties May Include (but are not limited to): * May participate in research and development of new procedures and changes to existing procedures

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Required:
  • 2-3 years of experience in histology laboratory testing preferred
  • Knows, understands, and adheres to all laboratory, Clinic and/or OSHA and CLIA standards
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment by daily cleaning, cleaning up spills and all other housekeeping duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Support staffing by being able to work extended or altered hours when necessary
  • Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame
  • Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed
  • Demonstrates adaptability to expand roles
Education: Bachelor of Science in Biology or equivalent degree preferred. ***College transcript in addition to a resume must be submitted verified to be hired for this position.
