AKBCU: No ICPA: NoGeneral Functions:The Safety and Risk Manager is responsible for managing CITC's comprehensive risk management program, including development and implementation of programs related to loss prevention, occupational health and safety requirements, and licensing and accreditation standards. This position supports CITC's mission by ensuring a safe environment where our people can develop opportunities that fulfill their endless potential. The role encompasses corporate insurance management, workers' compensation claim administration, and leadership of safety culture initiatives across the organization. Working under the direction of the Director/Senior Director of Legal Affairs, this position plays a critical role in protecting CITC's assets, employees, and participants through proactive risk management strategies.Duties and Responsibilities:Safety and Risk Manager
  • Lead the Health and Safety Committee to foster a comprehensive culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Identify potential hazards and risks by inspecting physical work environments, equipment, procedures, and processes across all CITC facilities.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by conducting regular inspections, audits, and developing improvement plans.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage the workers' compensation program including insurance procurement, reporting, inspections, and audit responses.
  • Collaborate on development of emergency response plans and coordinate emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Monitor safety procedures and develop necessary changes to enhance workplace safety and reduce risks.
  • Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual emergency drills and inspections are conducted and documented according to regulations.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, Human Resources, and department managers on workers' compensation claims and return-to-duty processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of safety activities, incidents, and compliance documentation.
  • Assess likelihood and severity of harm related to identified risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to address safety concerns and implement best practices.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.
Sr. Safety and Risk Manager
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities above with an advanced level of proficiency.
  • Identify emerging workplace safety requirements and develop proactive compliance strategies.
  • Review and analyze incident reports to identify trends and develop organization-wide safety improvements.
  • Develop advanced training presentations on regulatory requirements, identified risks, and best practices.
  • Lead periodic updates of emergency response plans and coordinate complex emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Prepare comprehensive applications, reports, and responses for workers' compensation insurance and facilitate carrier inspections.
  • Implement light-duty and return-to-duty policies to minimize lost time and ensure safe employee reintegration.

  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
  • Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications or be able to obtain them within three months from date of hire.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license and insurable under CITC's automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver's license for at least three years.
Safety and Risk Manager
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional-level risk management and loss control program experience.
Sr. Safety and Risk Manager
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional-level risk management and loss control program experience.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
  • The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
  • Performs field site visits and inspections which require working near moving equipment and traffic, walking on uneven or slippery surfaces, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
