Provide psychotherapy and facilitation of individual, family and group sessions to individuals and families on-site and at community-based locations.Main Duties Include:
  • Provide crisis intervention, advocacy and counseling in a non-judgmental, non-directive manner to clients on-site and at community outreach sites.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions on and off-site, which may be under supervision. Will be utilizing evidence-based counseling techniques to address different behavioral and mental health issues.
  • Coordinate with community partners of counseling activities at specified outreach locations.
  • Ensure required reporting and documentation are completed in approved EHR system within 24 hours of service.
  • Provide effective client advocacy.
  • Assess current needs of client and develop action plan to address needs and/or identify appropriate referrals
  • Provide knowledge on Alliance services both off site and in-house referrals, and appropriate referral to the psychiatrist for medication management.
  • Model and teach nonviolent discipline and conflict resolution skills to adults and children receiving services.
  • Report suspected and prior abuse/neglect to either Child Protective Services or Adult Protective Services when appropriate.
  • Provide on-going support to clients while they are working on a treatment plan.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and training to new staff and interns regarding effects and needs of clients.
  • Communicate special concerns about clients (both adults and children) to the Supervising Counselor or the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and electronic documentation in HIPAA compliant Electronic Health Record system, within the guidelines of program compliance.
  • Provide coverage for the interns and students as needed.
Required Qualifications and Experience at This Level:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology (LPC/LPC-Associate). Master's degree in Social Work (LMSW, LCSW). Proof of current supervision is needed as an Associate.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in providing crisis intervention; practicum experience is acceptable.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in providing individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Experience in crisis resolution with Refugee and Immigrant populations is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred. Bilingual in another language (Arabic, Urdu, Vietnamese, etc.) also given strong consideration.
  • Knowledge of providing services to resettlement and immigrant populations from a perspective that includes empowerment, power differentials and gender issues.
  • Knowledge of community resources for adults and children in crisis.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise volunteers, interns and students.
  • Exemplary skills in conflict resolution in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Proven ability to work and cooperate with staff and volunteers in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Ability to coordinate, track, and report information for statistical purposes proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other computer applications.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to drive and have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid auto insurance are required for counselor travels to outreach sites in the Houston area.
