Position PurposeUnder the direct supervision of the Sr. Assistant Dean & Director of OPAL or the Assistant Dean & Director of OPAL, the Assistant Director of Pluralism and Leadership is primarily responsible for providing direction, leadership, and advising to at least one Dartmouth affinity community and one leadership area under the umbrella of OPAL. Providing supervision, professional development, and event support to Program Coordinators. Additionally, each Assistant Director contributes to the core functions of OPAL by working collaboratively with departments and on committees to provide anchors of support to under-represented and/or marginalized students, campus multicultural education, and leadership development.Dartmouth believes that a 21st century liberal arts education integrates respect for, and understanding of, the unique and essential benefits of living, learning, and engaging in an inclusive global community. Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities● At least two years of relevant work experience in counseling, advising and mentoring students in college/university settings, particularly those directly served by OPAL.● Background and demonstrated knowledge in developing and managing integrated support services for marginalized communities.● Success in collaborating with colleagues in developing comprehensive and integrated efforts to support students.● Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental integrity, creativity, collaboration, initiative, multicultural education, and professionalism.● Excellent collaboration, listening and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team setting.● Demonstrated ability to foster positive and productive relationships with all campus constituencies, including institutional leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and parents and families.● Ability to balance competing demands under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications● Master's degree.
●Education and experience in student affairs, multicultural and social justice education, gender and sexuality studies, ethnic studies, international education, and/or leadership development.● Proven record of successful experience responding to individual and community issues and crises.● Demonstrated experience in student leadership development.● Solid foundation in student developmental theory and its application to professional practice in higher education and student affairs.● Demonstrated success in utilizing data for planning and evaluation of programs and services.● Strong conflict management and resolution skills.● Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

DescriptionSupervision● Hire, lead, direct, train and evaluate direct reports, both professional and student staff.● Supervise, train, and guide program expectations to Live-In Fellow(s) for respective Living Learning residential communities, in collaboration with Residential Education.Percentage Of Time 20
DescriptionAdvocacy● Conduct outreach, develop initiatives, educational programming, and leadership opportunities addressing individual, institutional, and cultural manifestations of oppression.● Initiate, lead, and/or serve on working groups, projects, and committees to advocate for OPAL-affiliated communities and contribute to divisional and institutional change.● Advise the Sr. Assistant Dean & Director of OPAL, Assistant Dean & Associate Director of OPAL, and other College leadership on best practices and strategies to enhance the support and inclusion of students and communities within one's oversight.● Represents the Office of Pluralism and Leadership and the Division of Student Affairs on divisional and institutional committees regarding a broad range of issues.Percentage Of Time 15

DescriptionAssessment and Administration● Utilize Dartmouth strategic priorities to develop learning outcomes and administer regular assessments of programs, services, and student learning and performance.● Attend professional training programs and remain up to date on issues and strategies related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.● Communicate progress, trends, and pertinent data via reports and presentations to Sr. Assistant Dean & Director of OPAL, Assistant Dean & Associate Director of OPAL, the Division of Student Affairs, and other relevant internal and external audiences.● Prepare and manage program budgets, special funds or grants, office correspondence, annual reports, and office records.● Work in consultation with Student Affairs and Advancement staff to identify and obtain supplemental funding for the Office of Pluralism and Leadership through following guidelines set for the Division of Student Affairs for endowed and sponsored funding.Percentage Of Time 10--- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
