ABOUT THE ROLE:Reviews documentation for diagnosis and procedures documented by providers and ancillary staff. Accurately applies ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes. Participates in audits and keeps up to date on coding changes, rules, and regulations. Perform duties related to medical coding, quality management, peer review and medical staff credentialing.YOUR ROLE WOULD ENCOMPASS:

  • Develops and updates processes; answers process questions and provides information support to co-workers and other departments.
  • Accurately assigns codes utilizing ICD-10, CPT & HCPCS on hospital services and physician clinic encounters within established timeframes. Enters charges on all account types appropriately.
  • Assists medical providers and ancillary staff with coding information needed for prior authorizations and insurance billing follow up.
  • Works closely with other CAMC HIM team members by identifying charts for Peer Review based upon Medical Staff established criteria and coordinates the Peer Review Process.
  • Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing Up, 10/5 Rule and Service Recovery when applicable.
  • Assists other CAMC HIM team members in identifying and reporting cases to the State Tumor Registry and Nebraska Organ Recovery.
  • Assists with establishment and maintenance of CAMC coding guidelines and departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists Manager by working directly with staff to assure turnaround standards are met.
  • Performs appointments and reappointments for medical providers and staff as required by the Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Develops and maintains medical staff roster and privileges list for use throughout CAMC.
  • Prepares reports for Medical Staff and Quality Council.
  • Assists with orienting and training new staff members on department functions, policies and procedures and processes.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of changes in the industry that will affect HIM functions and works with the Manager to evaluate impacts or necessary changes.
  • Supports Manager in accomplishing departmental goals and objectives.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
YOUR EXPERIENCE INCLUDES (PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN):Minimum of Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) field or three (3) years' work experience in HIM Leadership required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
