Job Title: Pathology AssistantJob DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated Pathology Assistant to join our Surgical Pathology division. The ideal candidate will possess the skills and experience necessary to handle tissue specimens, assist in autopsies, and contribute to the preparation of Gross Examination Reports. This role offers a stable, long-term opportunity with room for growth in a supportive and innovative laboratory environment.Responsibilities
  • Receive tissue specimens from operating rooms, nursing floors, and specialty rooms, ensuring proper submission, numbering, and logging.
  • Accurately describe specimens and ensure descriptions are entered into CoPath or documented by secretarial staff.
  • Obtain proper representative tissue specimens for slide preparation, ensuring they are labeled and logged.
  • Review prepared slides, either immediately or at a later time.
  • Assist in performing autopsies.
  • Help prepare written Gross Examination Reports, which will be checked and approved by the Pathologist.
  • Be on-call during evenings and weekends to handle telephone calls related to autopsy consent or other laboratory service issues.
  • Gross large cases and cancer cases, including uteri, breast cancer, and colon cancer specimens, as well as amputations.
  • Accession specimens and assist with frozen sections.
Essential Skills
  • New York State Permit for a Pathology Assistant.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Three or more years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in a pathology lab.
  • Experience with cancer centers.
  • Proficiency in pathology, laboratory operations, and grossing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Capability to handle 45-60 cases daily.
  • Open to candidates with two years of experience from large-scale hospitals.
  • Ability to work closely with a medical director and leadership from a renowned health organization.
Work EnvironmentThe position is a daytime role, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 4 PM, with no night or weekend shifts. You will report to a leadership professional and collaborate with the head of the histology department.
