State: West Virginia (US-WV)The Role at a glance:*This is an on-site position in West Liberty, WV at West Liberty UniversityThe Food & Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the implementation, adherence, and continuous improvement of both food safety and physical safety protocols for West Liberty University. This role requires a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, food safety compliance, and safety best practices to safeguard the well-being of our customers and team members.What you'll be doing:
- Food Safety:
- Ensure proper compliance with corporate food safety programs as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare units for the health department and third-party audits and support any corrective action or continuous improvement tasks as needed.
- Monitor food safety log and SOP compliance.
- Ensure the development and delivery of food safety training programs for employees, ensuring proper handling, storage, and processing of food products.
- Monitor completion of internal MyFieldAudits and follow up on corrective actions.
- Investigate food safety incidents, conduct a root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Physical Safety:
- Ensure proper compliance with corporate physical safety programs to reduce workplace hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant regulations.
- Training Delivery – Ensure training on health and safety management topics to WVU leadership & new managers on implementing safety programs.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and human resources, to ensure seamless integration of safety programs.
- Monitor reports on food and physical safety performance metrics, trends, and improvement initiatives to senior management and segment safety.
- Attend client and operational meetings as and when required to support the effective implementation of work-based food and physical safety solutions.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices related to food and physical safety.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of safety programs and reduce risk.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in food safety with a knowledge of workplace safety standards, preferably in hospitality or food production environment *Combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, FDA Food Code, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Certification in food safety (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe)
- Ability to work in a food production environment, including exposure to cold, heat, and other elements.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Will consider experience or combination of education and experience in lieu of degree.
