They help to maintain a clean, sanitary and well-organized service area within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.What you need to knowCompensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.Other Requirements or Other Factors:Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.This position may require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.No inhibiting allergies to animals, hay, dust, or disinfectants.Ability to move heavy loads.Provides quality customer service to internal and external customers/clients.Required Education:Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.Preferred Experience:One year experience in a veterinary medical setting.Horse handlingPreferred Licenses and Certifications:Certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Basic computer skills. General understanding of equipment used in a veterinary medical teaching hospital. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Horse handling skillsResponsibilities:Soft Tissue Responsibilities: Perform aseptic patient preparation for catheters and surgeries.Handle patients for evaluation and treatments.Assist in the scheduling of surgical procedures, providing communication to all areas of the hospital.Ensure that necessary materials and equipment are available for the clinician and 4vm students to use. Assist in patient recoveries. Assist clinicians, residents, and students with proper bandaging techniques. Assist with obtaining radiographs. Assist clinicians, residents and students with proper sedation protocols and techniques. Assist clinicians, students and residents with examinations. Assist with running GKX.Clinical Responsibilities:Instruct, guide, and supervise students in proper clinical techniques to support patient care.Monitor patients to detect any change in their clinical status and keep patients clean. Provide physical restraint for the safe handling of patient animals. Perform or assist with the collection and submission of patients’ blood, feces, urine, and tissues. Assist and instruct in the performance of diagnostic procedures and examinations. Administer patient treatments following a clinician’s orders without direct supervision. Place and maintain IV catheters. Helps other services as caseload permits, providing technical support due to staff outages or caseload. Assists with entering patient data onto the treatment sheets and medical record. Assists with recording all medications given.Teaching and Clinical Research :Participate in the instruction of technical skills in labs and seminars as needed. Participate in clinical and basic research programs as needed within the terms of employment. Facilitates faculty instruction of professional curriculum to veterinary medical students with an emphasis on clinical technique. Performs, assists, supervises and instructs veterinary students in patient care including patient restraint and handling, examination, and collecting patient history. Performs, assists, supervises and instructs veterinary technician assistants and student technicians on treatments and patient handling of patients admitted to the large animal hospital.Maintaining safe, clean, sanitary work environment:Maintain a sanitary and well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical teaching hospital. Restock supplies and medical inventory as needed.Required training, compliance, and administrative procedures:Remains current with safety classes, rabies prophylaxis, Radiation safety training, Infection Control, Aseptic Technique and maintains certification or licensure where appropriate. Ensures all hospital fees are correctly captured and entered into the hospital electronic medical records system. Enters worked time and leave entry in Workday in a timely manner. Answers email correspondence. Assists with school and hospital accreditations and inspections (AVMA, IACUC, AAHA, AAALAC, etc.).Maintains hospital stall census.Back up duties as assigned:Performs duties as assigned as an essential employee of the VMTH.May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or “on-call duty”.Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
