The School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) at St. Mary's University, a private, four-year Catholic and Marianist Hispanic-Serving University located in San Antonio, Texas, invites nominations and applications for an Assistant/Associate/or Full Professor rank, tenure track, or commensurate with experience and qualifications to assist in the development of the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Founding Director of Nursing. This faculty position is responsible for enhancing simulation integration in the curriculum and provide the students with lab practice, remediation, and skill evaluation. Didactic/lab teaching will be assigned as an as needed basis. Workload will primarily occur in the simulation suite and skills lab as the simulation program grows.Responsibilities: Beyond being engaged in the teaching and learning described in general terms above, all are expected to contribute and participate as follows:
  • Adheres to the responsibilities for full-time faculty as stated in the current St. Mary's University Handbook.
  • Complete the Faculty Orientation Sessions provided by the Provost Office.
  • Reports to the Director of Nursing.
  • Teaches expected content during classroom instruction as needed in assigned course.
  • Instructs and evaluates groups of students in clinical areas and in campus laboratories as assigned.
  • Provides practice, remediation, and skill evaluation to students in the lab when needs are identified by the course faculty.
  • Facilitates debriefing following simulation events.
  • Provides educational opportunities/resources to enhance faculty's knowledge and skills related to simulation and laboratory experiences.
  • Ensures the effective use of the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best PracticeTM in planning simulation experiences with faculty.
  • Creates Simulation Lab policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in scheduled Nursing Department meetings and provides suggestions/feedback for improvement related to laboratory/simulation experiences.
  • Research, purchase, and implement new technologies, simulators, and task trainers.
  • Be available for open labs and course labs.
  • Maintains/orders lab/simulation supplies
  • Develops and maintains case scenarios, setup guidance, utilization tracking, and center management documentation.
  • Administration and operation of learning/center management systems to record simulations, manage case information, collect faculty and standardized patient evaluations, track learner contact hours, and report on center data and utilization.
  • Schedules simulation activities and resources.
  • Completes annual faculty Growth and Development Plan (GDP).
  • Other teaching duties as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in nursing required; Doctoral Degree and/or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator certification (preferred); ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Medical surgical clinical practice preferred.
  • Current licensure or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in nursing education (preferred).
  • A minimum of (1) year in teaching simulation (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and 365, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point and Teams, including experience with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom)
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance, and personal injury insurance, or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals).
