Grow with us, H2O+U.Your OpportunityAs a Structural Engineer your role as a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work independently on large projects of high complexity, and as a leader of a team or project through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for developing and implementing an engineering discipline group equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations, technical and supervisory capabilities and operating procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery.Your Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for large projects of high complexityLeads an engineering Team responsible for evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering all structural engineered systems or products for a projectEngages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formatsUtilizes technologies in development of three dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designersLeads an engineering Team responsible for the preparation and revisions to documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and detailsLeads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendorsParticipates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimatingLeads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documentsParticipates in constructability reviewConducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peersLeads and provides guidance in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural groupDevelops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projectsAssists with the development of proposals for smaller, less complex projectsOversees and manages multiple projectsSupervises and mentors junior level staffYour Capabilities and CredentialsStrong knowledge of structural design codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318 and/or ACI 350, TMS 402, AISC 360), and the application of these provisionsStrong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specificationsStrong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standardsAbility to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document productionChecks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and scheduleParticipates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thoughtThorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to othersStrong presentation and interview skillsStrong written communication skillsRequires understanding of Microsoft Office SuiteRequires experience producing 3D models and 2D structural engineering drawings using Bentley Structural and Microstation, or Revit and AutoCadRequires experience using structural engineering/finite element analysis software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, RISADemonstrated business development and marketing skillsDemonstrated leadership experience in professional engineering organizations or equivalent at the professional levelEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering, Licensed Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois is required.Minimum of 7 years of experience.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. This position requires full-time, in-person attendance at our Chicago, Illinois office location for an initial on-boarding/training period (minimum of 6 months).
