TITLE OF POSITION: Summer Athletic & Camps AssistantCLASSIFICATION: Student EmployeeSTATUS: Temporary, Non-exempt, Part-timeLOCATION: Grand Rapids- LettingaREPORTS TO: Manager of Athletic Facility/EventsSUMMARY:This position acts as a general assistant to the Athletics-Student center, performing clerical office functions related to daily operations as well as assisting in the planning, coordination and implementation of special events. Responsibilities include assisting in functions, performing set up and tear down, team or officials hosts, concessions support, ticket sales, volleyball line judges, customer support, media relations, and sports information support. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.]RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating files and record keeping systems
  • Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets, graphics, and other materials using various software programs.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail and faxes
  • May be responsible for greeting visitors, as well as answering and routing incoming calls
  • Set up and tear down events
  • Oversee events at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex
  • Assist with special events and functions as needed
  • Coordinate all promotions for student Life Programs for DU TV and plasma screens (average 3-4 per month)
  • Assist with the security of the building and safety of the customers, while continuously monitoring doors and incoming/outgoing guests, as well as paying attention to the surrounding areas
  • Welcome and assist persons entering the Student Center. By greeting customers as they enter the building, the attendant helps create a sense of community.
  • Give facility tours for prospective groups and organizational use
  • Assemble information packets
  • May assist with laundry and distribution of athletic equipment.
  • Update and maintain Student Life website with calendar events, links to performer websites and upcoming activities, registration forms, etc.
  • Update and maintain Student Life social media pages
  • Greet opposing teams and officials and bring them to their locker rooms - may serve as line judge for volleyball contests
  • May assist with concessions - responsible for handling money from event sales
  • Assist students, staff, faculty and visitors in signing in to use the fitness center Assist students, staff, faculty and visitors in signing in to use the fitness center
  • May be responsible for opening and closing the fitness center
  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  • Advise facility users on proper equipment usage
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally to coaches, players, and fans.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Must be highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
  • Some travel between locations required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
