Description: The Campus Police Officer performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order on a technical college campus.
Patrol Duties:
Night Shift
  • Patrol inside the dormitory a minimum of twice between the hours of 6.00pm and midnight, and a minimum of once between the hours of midnight and 6.00am.
  • Walk the campus buildings after all night classes have ended. Ensure all doors are secured.
Day Shift
  • Patrol the inside of the dormitory a minimum of twice during shift.
  • Walk the entire campus every 2 hours.
Major Duties:
  • Guards and monitors buildings. Answers alarms and investigates disturbances: Investigates criminal complaints and vehicle and other accidents.
  • Coordinates with State Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions; Apprehends criminal suspects and turns over to local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration.
  • Inspects assigned areas for fire or environmental hazards.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises.
  • Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Responds to fires, natural disasters or other hazardous events.
  • Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force if necessary.
  • Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities.
  • Coordinates disasters response or crisis management activities such as opening shelters, special needs programs and irregularities.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities to determine their operational and functional capabilities.
  • Collaborates with other to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies.
  • Escorts or drives motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection.
  • Direct traffic during special events and provide security for such occasions.
  • Maintains Peace Officer Standards Training Certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • P.O.S.T. Certification with knowledge of all pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations
  • Ability to identify signs of unlawful entry
  • Ability to patrol assigned areas
  • Ability to handle crisis situations according to established guidelines
  • Ability to complete reports according to establish guidelines
  • Ability to differentiate between colors
  • Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends, evenings and/or morning shifts
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision

  • Above average verbal, written and basic computer skills and/or knowledge
Driver's License Requirement: Valid GA Driver License
Monetary Transactions:
  • This position may perform monetary transactions, such as receiving cash, check, and credit card payments.
  • Position will require a credit check.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather.
  • The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
  • This position is subject to exposure to extreme and possibly life-threatening conditions.
  • This position requires a DOT Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol test, Fingerprinting and the position shall be subject to Random Drug/Alcohol testing.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel to peer groups or other training/conferences, other campuses, and to various locations.
Training Requirements:
  • Employee understands and agrees to complete all required trainings, to include those mandated by the State of Georgia Governor, by stated deadlines, as a condition of employment.
