We have a wonderful opportunity for a Float Pool Associate Blood Collection Specialist (Phlebotomist) position to join the Bloodworks team. The incumbent performs whole blood procedures from allogeneic donors with an uncompromising commitment to quality standards; the safety of the blood supply and the donor experience. This position is an entry-level position that will go through a 6-week on-the-job paid training program. The role has career progression opportunities in Blood Collection Specialist I, II, III, and IV levels.Additional Details:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Screening and taking vital signs of potential donors/patients and evaluating their eligibility following Bloodworks’ policies/procedures
  • Answering donor questions to ensure they are giving informed consent to donation and blood testing
  • Performing donor identification, properly label blood components for venipunctures for whole blood and test tubes
  • Performing whole blood collection procedures on donors
  • Monitoring/caring for donors with adverse reactions to the donation process
  • Sealing blood units and preparing blood component shipment
  • Follow universal precautions and bio-hazard safety standards for handling blood
  • Properly documenting and performing quality controls to uphold Bloodworks and FDA standards to maintain the safety of the blood supply
  • Interacting with team members and donors in a knowledgeable and professional manner
Position Requirements: include, but are not limited to:
  • High School education or GED equivalent required
  • One year of work experience in a role where the primary focus is on customer service
  • Possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License in the State of residence with an acceptable driving record for at least 2.5 years.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, bend and reach to perform repetitive motions, lift and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Work flexible shifts with the ability to travel to various work locations– schedules may change frequently and unexpectedly. Work may include overnight, holidays, and weekend work away from home
  • This job requires work at a variety of locations, and at varying days and hours with overtime as necessary to support the community transfusion needs. This includes evening and weekend hours.
  • Float pool staff will be scheduled within their approved travel region. Where practical, they will be scheduled at their base location.
  • Float pool staff will be expected to fill in for daily schedule openings or changes, and can expect to be reassigned (adjustments in location and/or start/stop time) daily. While declination of these changes is not permitted, arrangements may be made for late arrivals/early departures.
  • Float pool staff who are not reassigned on a scheduled day will work in their scheduled location for that day.
  • Ability to fulfill Washington State Health Care Assistant Certification (category A at a minimum) requirements.
  • Ability to attend an 8-week training program
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Bloodworks is a community-supported non-profit organization. As such, from time to time incumbents can expect to work with volunteers
