Actual duties and percentage effort/duty listed on position description may vary slightly, and incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Job distinction: Police Officer 3 - presence of supervisor duties; Lieutenant - absence of second-line supervisor duties.The physical area covered by the department includes the campus with over 250 principal buildings located on more than 200 acres and additional facilities (South Campus, FETI, Rural Life Museum, Hilltop Arboretum) located off campus in Baton Rouge. Works shifts designed to best supplement the department in their mission to provide safety to campus population.Job Responsibilities:Reports directly to Police Lieutenant or higher-ranking officer. Serves as supervisor, providing direction to Police Officer and/or Communications Officer classifications. In the absence of supervisor of higher rank, serves as acting supervisor. Determines work assignments, approves/disapproves work, and trains other officers. Attends shift briefings related to patrol, and attends law enforcement and supervisory training. Must possess a valid driver's license. (25%)Protects lives and property with the primary emphasis on patrol and enforcement of laws. Patrols keeping in communication with authorized personnel. Enforces state motor vehicle traffic laws and investigates traffic accidents. Provides emergency medical services. Intervenes in emergency situations. Conducts crime prevention training programs. (25%)Provides reports on all police activities for supervisor review and approval. Reviews and approves subordinate reports on all police activities. Conducts routine PES evaluations. Inspects police units for routine maintenance and reports repair and maintenance issues to the Fleet Operations supervisor. May be required to make purchases for supplies/equipment relating to patrol needs. (25%)Performs special assignments involving crowd control operations, such as sporting events, special events, surveillance activities, intelligence gathering activities, and may also provide security protection for high-level university officials, students, and other dignitaries as required. (5%)Additional Requirements:Vehicle Operation - This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.Safety and Security Sensitive Job - This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.Emergency Essential Personnel - This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.Physical Requirement - This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.Minimum QualificationsEvery 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
