OverviewThe Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a motivated, customer-focused individual to join our team as a Job Center Specialist I (JCS I) in the Barre regional office. This is a temporary, six-month position that offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to workforce development in Vermont.As a JCS I, you will serve as the first point of contact at the Barre Job Center, representing the Department to the public and assisting individuals seeking employment and training services. You will play a key role in assessing customer needs, providing front-line support, and ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. Responsibilities include greeting and guiding walk-in customers, promoting awareness of available services, conducting initial interviews, making referrals to partner organizations and community resources, and documenting customer interactions. You will also provide basic coaching and encouragement to individuals navigating employment-related challenges and assist with developing basic computer skills as needed.The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrate empathy and professionalism in service delivery, and show a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is essential, and the ability to work both independently and under supervision is expected. It is expected that JCS I staff will engage all clients in a manner that exhibits professionalism, sensitivity, fairness, tact and diplomacy, and helps clients understand the services available to them through VDOL programs. Supportive attitude and actions are expected to be demonstrated in dealing with clients.Position is assigned to a regional office location, but there may be times when travel between multiple regional locations will be required based on Department needs. May include travel to employers' worksites, job fairs/hiring events, schools and community partner meetings.
