- Personnel Security Specialists receive completed fitness pre-appointment packages and make a risk based assessment/recommendation for a pre-appointment determination in accordance with the following references used by TSA, but not limited to:
- the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA)
- Lautenberg Act (applicable to firearms handlers)
- DHS Instruction 121-01-007-01
- Fitness guidance
- Security Executive Agent Directive (SEAD)
- As well as guidance provided by Suitability Executive Agent (SuitEA) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI)
- Personnel Security Specialists receive completed investigations and inquiries and make recommendations for determination of fitness and access to national security information in accordance with but not limited to the ATSA. Inquiries are received from:
- Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA)
- 2nd party Investigative Service Provider (ISP) and Continuous Evaluation (CE) dispositions
- Lautenberg Act (applicable to firearms handlers)
- DHS Instruction 121-01-007-01
- Fitness guidance's
- SEAD
- guidance provided by Suitability Executive Agent (SuitEA)
- Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).
- Personnel Security Specialists apply proper grammatical context when preparing administrative letters of action (i.e., Letters of Interrogatory).
- PSSs apply safeguards towards the securing of PII and classified investigative content to the Top Secret Level (all classified investigative content will be reviewed at TSA).
- PSSs are responsible for processing pre-Appointment Cases and completing associated tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of and ability to pull Lexis Nexis Credit Report.
- Ability to execute and complete daily workbook outlining cases worked, to be submitted daily to Managing Adjudicator.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to compose letters of action in support of egregious findings.
- Demonstrated ability to maneuver Security Case Management Systems.
- Experienced using Microsoft suite applications.
- Utilization and knowledge of NP2/NBIS Suite applications, with special emphasis on e-App and CVS.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate and grammatically compose content using the English language.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task
- Must possess TS Security Clearance.
- Minimum of Two (2) years of experience adjudicating suitability and national security background investigations of varying levels of complexities.
- Successful completion of an accredited Basic and Advanced Suitability Adjudication Course. (Advanced Suitability Course must be completed within 6 months of Hire.)
