Ensure that the development and delivery of curriculum and the instructional program in the is effective and efficient, incorporates district goals, and supports student achievement.Direct and manage the instrumental music and band program of the district. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and provide an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Master's Degree requiredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of curriculum and instructionKnowledge of overall operation of instrumental music programKnowledge of state and UIL policies governing band and all fine artsAbility to interpret data and evaluate Fine Arts programsAbility to manage budget and personnelAbility to implement policy and proceduresAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Three years' experience as a head band director.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional and Program Management * Provides appropriate training for teachers to develop, implement, evaluate and revise curriculum documents
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district's goals and objectives related to the Fine Arts program. Ensure that goals and objectives are developed using effective collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques.
  • Monitor and reevaluate Fine Arts program on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support accomplishment of education goals of the Fine Arts program are available.
  • Collaborate with curriculum department, principals, teachers, and other instructional staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on a systematic review and analysis.
  • Engage instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional tools and materials to meet student learning needs.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives.
  • Oversee staff development programs and provide effective activities that support the Fine Arts program, incorporate input from teachers and principals, and are consistent with the district's mission.
  • Interpret and articulate information regarding the Fine Arts program to parents and community.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises all local and state contests/competitions and special events for the district.
  • Keeps abreast of technical, legislative, and professional trends and developments affecting the district's Fine Arts program and disseminates this information to appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in professional development programs that lead to improved job performance.
  • Supports the Fine Arts booster club activities.
Instructional Strategies * Direct instrumental performers, including marching band, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.
  • Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL.
  • Support and guide band booster club activities.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other member of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
Student Growth and Development * Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization * Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips activities and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Policy, Reports, and Law * Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
Budget * Participates in the preparation and management of the budgets based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Maintains current inventory of district instruments and equipment.
  • Initiates purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Personnel Management * Provide input to Campus Principal regarding job performance of employees in the Fine Arts department to ensure effectiveness.
  • Assists in recruiting, selecting, training Fine Arts staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Communication * Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.Community Relations * Articulate the district's mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing district's mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
